METHODS OF USING ESSENTIAL OILS AND ESSENTIAL OIL PRODUCTS

MASSAGE
The essential oils need to be diluted in a carrier oil. Sweet almond, grapeseed, and sunflower oils are all suitable. Unrefined, cold pressed oils are the most therapeutic for massage purposes. DILUTE ONE DROP OF ESSENTIAL OIL FOR EVERY 2ml OF CARRIER OIL as a general rule for a blend (e.g. 5 drops in 10ml). 2-3 different kinds of essential oils can be used in a blend. 30ml of carrier is usually sufficient for a full body massage in which up to 15 drops of essential oil can be added. Mix well. If storing, then store in a dark bottle in a cool place.

INHALATION
STEAMING: Put 6 drops of essential oil in 3 pints of boiling water. Cover your head with a towel and inhale as much as comfortable. If using a custom made steam inhaler, use only 1 -2 drops. Keep boiling water away from children. This method is especially effective for colds.
NEAT: Put 2 drops of your chosen essential oil or mix on a tissue and inhale as required.
BURNERS: Put up to 6 drops of the chosen oils in the burner bowl which should be filled with  water. Light the candle and enjoy the aroma. Keep away from pets and children.

COMPRESS
Use a hot compress for boils, acne, cuts, rheumatism, chest infections. Use 5-6 drops of essential oils to 4 pints of boiling water. Skim the surface of the water with sterile gauze and apply to the affected area until cool.
A cold compress is used for sprains, bruises, arthritis, joint inflammation, fever and varicose veins. Prepare as above and allow the water to cool.

BATHS
Use essential oils drops neat in the bath (5-6), disperse well by agitating the surface of the water with your hands, close the bathroom door and lie in the warm bath for 15 minutes. Some essential oils can be skin irritants and it is more beneficial to dilute the oils in a carrier oil as described above, massage the oil all over the body and then get in the bath and soak. Do not wash it off as the essential oils need time to enter the bloodstream via the skin for maximum therapeutic effect.

CAUTION
For children use half the stated dosage and for babies and toddlers use a quarter of the stated adult dosage. Not all essential oils are suitable for children.
Do not use the following essential oils if you suffer from hypertension (high blood pressure) :- Ginger, Hyssop, Pine, Rosemary and Thyme.

In pregnancy always exercise caution. If in doubt do not use or seek advice, However certainly do not use the following essential oils:-
Aniseed, Angelica, Basil, Cinnamon, Camphor, Cedarwood, Clary Sage, Cypress, Juniper Hyssop, Marjoram, Pennyroyal, Parsleyseed, Rosemary, Sage, Thyme, Thuja and Wintergreen.
